VIGLIANO BIO FARM, SIENA

Vigliano Bio is our Farm, covering an area of 110 hectares between Sovicille and Siena.

It's just 9 km from the centre of Siena, with magnificent views of the city and the surrounding hills.

We're in the Merse valley, an area abounding in Romanesque rural churches, abbeys, ancient Etruscan-Roman villas and medieval villages with castles; we're just 2 km from the nearby village of San Rocco, with all its amenities.

This is a relaxing part of the Siena area, less known and less crowded by mass tourism yet highly regarded by lovers of sport, particularly cycling and motorcycling, partly because of its strategic location close to the south-western side of Siena and the sea.

We produce mainly cereal crops such as durum wheat, soft wheat, farro monococcum, barley, millet and ancient cereals, chickpeas, lentils and wine grapes, all grown using organic methods. The company is certified by Qcertificazioni.

We have collaborated with the Tuscany Region on several projects for the recovery of ancient grain varieties, of which we are now custodians, and which we continue to produce and sell. The main stages of transformation are carried out on the farm: we are farmers and pasta makers, and we've chosen to live the slow way, in close contact with our land, cultivating our passions and the things that make us feel good, here and now.

On the top of three hills, the Vigliano Bio estate enjoys beautiful views of its fields and vineyards,  sloping down towards our farmhouses, with Siena and Casentino in the distance.

At the centre of the Vigliano estate stands the pasta factory with its organic shop for direct sales. We have closed our production chain, processing what we grow ourselves, the traditional way. We're Guglielmo and Federica, and we take care of the sowing, harvest and processing of crops and the management of our farm and rural guest houses; our business is entirely family run.

All our raw materials are certified organic and produced in the Siena hills of Tuscany.

We have two guest houses in Vigliano, where you can stay for long or short periods.

Our organic guest houses offer several accommodation options to suit all your needs.

Podere Cartaio and Villa Poggio al Sole are similar in style and just 1 km apart within the estate; both can be rented by large groups.

The Vigliano Bio guest house is surrounded by countryside, but not isolated, with good connections to local towns.

Just 2 minutes away you'll find all the amenities: bars, restaurants, cake and ice-cream shop, supermarket, pharmacy, church, laundry, bank and post office.

It could be called a small family-run village in the hills of Siena, surrounded by fields of cereals and legumes and crossed by farm tracks and the local road which connects the various farms and properties. There are two guest houses, and a third farmhouse is the premises of our pasta factory, offering direct sales for our guests and other customers.

Our organic products are used in our rural tourism business for themed events, organic tastings and welcome dinners for our guests, taking place in the large hall of Podere Cartaio, on its verandas or in the garden.

Our grain is stoneground to make flour, preserving the germ, and we use this to make bread from ancient varieties and baked in the wood oven, crackers, breadsticks and home-made pastries, which we offer our guests for breakfast.

We use our wheat and stoneground flours to make fresh and dried pasta in several shapes and types: pasta is our main product, and it's made right here on the farm. We offer organic artisan pasta.

On request we can provide tastings or welcome dinners with fixed menus, exclusively for guests in our accommodation. We use mostly our own produce to create simple, traditional Tuscan dishes, unfussy and genuine, which are accompanied by other typical local specialities, locally sourced from the farms of trusted friends.
