The building dates back to 1850, and retains its original form and materials,

following restoration in 2000 and more recent refurbishments, the latest in 2021.

A typical two-storey Tuscan farmhouse of 250 square metres, with wood-beamed ceilings, parquet or Tuscan terracotta floors and marble from Siena and Carrara.

It is one of two farmhouses at Vigliano Bio, and can sleep 8 people in 4 double rooms with en suite bathrooms.

Families or groups of friends will have exclusive use of the entire property, with a private 6 x 12 m swimming pool and furnished sunbathing area, and covered verandas opening onto the garden. The house is for the exclusive use of guests, with no shared areas.

We're in the Merse valley, an area abounding in Romanesque rural churches, abbeys, ancient Etruscan-Roman villas and medieval villages with castles.

Just 2 km from the nearby village of San Rocco, with all amenities.

This is a relaxing part of the Siena area, less known and less crowded by mass tourism yet highly regarded by lovers of sport, particularly cycling and motorcycling, partly because of its strategic location close to the south-western side of Siena and the sea.

We mainly produce cereals such as durum and soft wheat, farro monococcum, barley and millet, as well as ancient grains and chickpeas, lentils and wine grapes; all our crops are grown organically and most of them are processed in our own factory and used in our guest houses.

On the top of three hills, the Vigliano Bio estate enjoys beautiful views of its fields and vineyards, sloping down towards our farmhouses, with Siena and Casentino in the distance.

Our organic guest house offers several accommodation options to suit all your needs, with our two farmhouses:

Podere Cartaio and Villa Poggio al Sole are similar in style and just 1 km apart within the estate; both can be rented by large groups.

Our rates for the entire farmhouse:

for group of 8 people, from € 240.00 in low season per night; from € 280.00 in spring per night. Excluding bridges and holidays.

Inside the farmhouse

Ground floor

The main kitchen with French windows opening onto the garden: a very bright and well-equipped space, extremely comfortable and next to the entrance to the spacious living area.

The dining room/living area is large and comfortable; a relaxing space with a large fireplace in typical Tuscan style.

It is furnished in rural style and offers all modern conveniences; the living room gives access to the verandas, which are roofed and equipped for outdoor cooking.

The ground floor also offers the fourth double bedroom with its bathroom.

All rooms have air conditioning/heat pumps in addition to heating for the winter months.

First floor

Original travertine stairs lead to the first floor of the farmhouse and a small lounge with a fireplace, followed by three double rooms, each with its own bathroom.

Three of the four bedrooms are upstairs, and are well-placed to ensure privacy; each has its own private bathroom.

The first floor also features another fully-equipped kitchen and a kitchenette.

The entire house has mesh wifi connectivity to offer enhanced coverage for anyone working from the property or guests who still want technology while on holiday.

Outside the farmhouse

A private access road lined with cypresses leads to Podere Cartaio, which is surrounded by 5000 square metres of garden with evergreen hedges of bay, rosemary, myrtle and sage; ancient mulberries and medlars, plum trees and cypresses are dotted all over the property, shade the house and are home to blackbirds, magpies, sparrows, jays and doves.

Broom and roses of many colours and types surround the pool area.

The 6 x 12 metre pool is located on a hilltop with views of Siena.

The typical skyline of the Siena hills offers wonderful views from the pool during leisure time.
The pool, for the exclusive use of guests, is entirely fenced as required by law, and has a sunbathing area with sun beds, chairs and tables, and an outdoor shower.
The use of caps and showering before entering the pool are recommended and obligatory.

The pool is overlooked by covered verandas, which are furnished and equipped for outdoor cooking and eating.
